The animation is painstakingly created, the stop-motion figures are incredibly detailed, and the story carries a surprising amount of weight for this oft-told story.

Guillermo del Toro puts his personal stamp with exquisite cinematography capturing intricate stop-action in his dark, musical reimagining of the classic tale.
